Erythromycin:
-used to prevent neonatal conjunctivitis
-two main causes of neonatal conjunctivitis is the mother having chlamydia or gonorrhea
-3% of infants who were affected suffered blindness(Schaller and Klauss 2001)
Vitamin K:
-routinely a shot given after birth to promote blood clotting
-can be given in liquid form (orally) if available from provider
-vitamin k levels increase rapidly over the first week of life and most newborns will have sufficient levels by day 8
