•Standard Thumb Forceps: (serrated tips) used to pick up tissue between adjacent surfaces

•Standard Tissue Forceps: teeth are used to grasp tissue and prevent from slipping
•Identified by a number of apposing teeth on each jaw (1x2, 2x3, 3x4)
•Sometimes referred to as rat-toothed forceps because the pointed projections resemble the teeth of a rat
•The teeth should approximate tightly when the instrument is closed
•Splinter Forceps: have sharp points that are useful in removing foreign objects such as splinters from tissue
