PHYSICIAN PREPS ANESTHETIC:
•Physician may prefer anesthetic to be drawn up after they applied sterile gloves.
•MA should show label of vial to physician & securely hold it while physician draws medication.
•MA must hold the vial because the outside of it is not sterile and cannot be touched with physician's sterile gloved hand.
* Needle & Syringe are placed on a sterile field
PREPARING ANESTHETICS
•Drawn up according to chapter 26.
•Vial is to be cleaned using an antiseptic wipe.
•Correct amount is to be drawn up into syringe.
•MA or physician may perform tasks
Assisting With Minor Surgery: Local Anesthetics Continued
M.A. PREPS ANESTHETIC
•M.A. withdraws the correct amount of anesthetic into the syringe & hands it to the physician.
•Physician injects anesthetic to pt & then applies sterile gloves to perform surgery.
* Needle & Syringe are not placed on the sterile field.
