Introduction to Minor Office Surgery
Surgery: the branch of surgery that deals with operative and manual procedures for correction of deformities and defects, repair of injuries, diagnosis and treatment of certain diseases
Minor office Surgery: surgical procedure that is restricted to the management of minor conditions and injuries that does not require the general use of anesthesia.
Characteristics of Minor Surgery:
•Performed in an ambulatory health care facility
-Physician’s office or clinic
•Performed in a short period of time
-Usually less than a hour
•Requires local, topical, or no anesthetic
•Performed safely with minimum discomfort to pt.
•Do not under normal circumstances perform a threat to life, or functional organs/body parts
