Principles Of Surgical Aspesis
• Sterility of instruments and supplies is achieved through the use of disposable sterile items or by sterilizing reusable
• Sterility of hands cannot be attained
– Sanitizing hands must be performed before and after every surgical procedure using proper technique
• Preventing contamination of sterile articles:
– Gloves must be worn while picking up or transferring articles during a sterile procedure
• A sterile object that touches any unsterile object is automatically considered contaminated.
• If in doubt, consider the object contaminated and replace with sterile.
