General Mechanism of Enzyme Activity

Enzymes are globular proteins that act as biological catalysts and help speed up reactions in the body. Enzymes allow reactions to occur at a normal  body temperature by decreasing the amount of activation energy required.

   

Basic steps of Enzyme Reactions

1.The enzyme’s active site must first bind with the substance or substrate of the enzyme

2.The enzyme-substrate complex undergoes internal rearrangements that form the product

3. The enzyme releases the product of the reaction. this step shows the catalytic role of an enzyme.
