Types of Junctions
Tight Junctions- a series of integral protein molecules in the plasma membranes of adjacent cells fuse together forming an impenetrable junction.
Desmosomes- these junctions act as anchoring junctions, mechanical couplings scattered like rivets along the of abutting cells that prevent their separation.
Gap Junctions- or nexus is a communicating junction that allows chemical substances to pass between adjacent cells. The cells are connected by hollow cylinders called connexons.
