Balance - asymmetrical but balanced out with rocks

Contrast - rocks look rough and dark. Water is smooth in some parts but rough in others with bright and dark colors

Emphasis - emphasis put on water and rapids

Movement - water causes eyes to travel down the painting to the rapids on the bottom

Proportion - everything is set to scale. Rocks in the background are made to look very high to show how far the water is falling

Rhythm - many rocks support the water as is falls and rushes over them

Unity - the rocks and water work together to create the waterfall and the small bushes add beauty to the rapids
