Caste System

-CASTE (social groups people are born into)
-Couldn't marry or eat with a member outside of your caste
-Higher caste people had stricter rules to protect them from lower caste people
-Lowest caste was Dalits or "untouchables". Their lives were hard and restricted
-Karma determined your caste
-Gave a sense of identity and interdependence
-Own occupation and role
-over time, castes began to evolve and as people migrated to new places, new castes were made
