Indus River Valley Civilization Geography

- Located in the area known as South Asia, or the Indian SUBCONTINENT (a large landmass that juts out from the continent)
- Extends south into the Indian Ocean
- The snow filled mountains, Hindu Kush and the Himalayas, border the northern part of the subcontinent
- India's culture developed on its own because these mountains limited people from coming in and leaving.
- The Hindu Kush served as one of the only entrances and exits for migrating people and invaders
- Divided into three major zones: the Gangetic Plain (North), the coastal plains, and the Deccan PLATEAU (raised area of land)
