Artist: Lynne Norwood lofton

Title: everyday cat vase

Date: 2008

Medium: earthenware

Provenance: unknown

Period: modern

Source: the best of 500 ceramics by:lark crafts 2012

I liked the unique quality of the piece. It was unlike any of the pieces I saw, from form to glazes. Although I admired the artist's abstract style, their piece did not really connect with any of the ideas I was going for. I was, however, influenced by the diversity of the piece.

Title: ashanti abstract stool

Date: 20th century

Medium: wood

Provenance: Ghana

Period: expressionism

Source: www.hamillgallery.com

I admired this "three column" version of an ashanti stool. At first when I was developing the idea for my own stool, this sort of construction was in the running. Although I later decided against it, i still thought it was a unique way to create the piece, for it seems to provide a sense of stability,.
