Interpretation

1. Texture: smoothness through piece especially on base and seat

      - sense of pureness and softness

2. I decided to use this aspect on the base and seat of my stool. It provided variation with the pattern on the center shape of my piece and provided some calmness.

I think this particular stool focuses more on the sacred aspect it had to ashanti people. It us believed to possess the soul of their people and I can definitely see where this idea comes into play. Its simplicity combined with subtle pattern portrays the sense of well-being ANC community of the ashanti. It seems to represent purity and holiness just as the ashanti believed the golden stool was.

Judgement

This work is very interesting to me, but not as drawing in as the previous work. Although I admire the simplicity and serenity it encompasses, the piece does not maintain viewers' attention as well. I do think however just the unique form of the stool itself would be very intriguing to viewers, especially those who have never seen one before and don't know its history. In this way, I think the artist was very successful in communicating a deeper meaning to viewers, as they are able to sense some type of cultural vibe.
