-In 1605 St. Vincent left Marselilles by ship on his way back from obtaining an inheritance, he was captured by African pirates and taken to Tunis
- He was sold off to a master, but ended up being sold again
- He had one last owner after the first two, who was a former priest. Eventually they both decided to escape Africa together; after the owner returned to his Christian religion.
