Major Leaders in Temperance Movement
In 1852 during the effort to lower alcohol consumption a woman named Mary C. Vaughan spoke about her opinion on alcohol. She stated that alcohol led to bad things such as domestic abuse and with it came violence.
Lyman Beecher, a minister from Connecticut, decided to start speaking about the problems of alcohol in 1825. In 1826, the American Temperance Society was formed.
