Weathering

Weathering- Weathering is the natural process that break down rocks without transporting them. For example, freezing, thawing, plants, wind and pressure can cause rocks to break. Water enters small cracks in rocks. If the water freezes, it expands. Later, the water will thaw. After a while, repeated freezing and thawing breaks rocks apart. A plants roots force their way through cracks in rocks. When the roots grow, they cause the cracks to widen and the rocks break apart. Winds that carry sand break down the softer parts of rocks. The sharp edges wear away rock.
