This advertisement immediately elicits sympathy in the viewer. The opening line “Why doesn't anybody want me?” makes the reader feel sorry for the dog because what he is “saying” is relatable; many people have felt alone at some point in their lives. The words on the cardboard demonstrate the vulnerability of a puppy. In addition, the sullen, hopeless look on the dog’s face inspires the viewer to take action, whether that be adopting the dog, telling a friend about the dog, or donating monetarily, because of their emotional connection.
