Gold Rush

On January 24,1848, gold was discovered in Colona, California by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill. The east coast was alerted of this by the New York Times confirming the gold rush in California. People for all around the world came to California in hope of striking it rich. Many did become millionaires, but many also became poorer then they were before. Ten years later, the gold rush ended when a New Mexican gold rush began.

Report of the gold rush from The Californian on March 15, 1848. (Gold)
