On May 7, 1847 at The Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 250 delegates from 28 states participated in the meeting that started the American Medical Association. Their goals included Scientific advancement, standards for medical education, launching a program of medical ethics, and improved public health. At the meeting,these delegates created the first code of medical ethics and the nationwide standards for preliminary medical education. This was the start of the largest medical association in America.
