On May 22,1843 1,000 men, women, and children departed from Elm Grove, Missouri on wagons heading west on the Oregon Trail. They were led by Dr. Elijah White whom traveled on it a year before. They endured many risks such as disease, indian attacks, and crossing rivers. The majority of the 1,000 pioneers made it to the destination in Oregon. The decent to Oregon became an annual event and the population of the colony increased year after year.
