First telegraph message

"What God hath wrought"

This message was sent over by the first long distance telegraph line. Samuel F.B. Morse was granted 30,000 dollars from congress to build this electric line between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. Morse's partner, Alfred Vail, completed the forty-mile line in May 1844. They decided to use a Bible quote from Numbers 23:23 "What hath God wrought." Morse sent this message from the Capital in Washington, D.C. to Vail whom was at Mt.Claire station in Baltimore.
