It's been a year since Bruno came home to his whole family packing their suitcases. Bruno's parents told him and Gretel that they were moving back to Berlin with their mother. Bruno didn't want to go back he wanted to stay and talk to Shmuel. They next day he went to go tell Shmuel the bad news. But Shmuel also had bad news. He said that his father was missing. Bruno said that when he comes back tomorrow that he will help him find his father.
