The Jesuits were a religious order that was created in the Catholic Reformation to serve the pope and the church. Its founder was Ignatius of Loyola. He had been a soldier and it showed in his order. Jesuits tried to be as disciplined as soldiers. Ignatius was the general and called the jesuits soldiers. They thought a strong Catholic education would turn the Protestants back.
