9.Religious Wars

During the Protestant Reformation the Protestants had many disagreements. Peasants revolted against their rulers when they red Luther's Bible. In France Protestants were called Huguenots. They had multiple conflicts that began when the French king decided to get rid of the Protestants. He banned their religion and punished those he found. Violence finally broke out in 1562 when a Catholic noble killed a group of Protestants. The Protestants were infuriated but after a year of fighting they agreed to stop. Later the war continued on and off for about 20 years. The worst of it was St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre where 3,000 Protestants died. Finally King Henry IV made the Edict of Nantes which allowed religious freedom. That ended the religious wars.
