Why did England join the war?

- England has often been described to be in "splendid isolation" from the rest of Europe.
- They wanted to protect their trade routes to India because they relied on Indian troops controlling the empire.
-Russia was a big concern for England. Russia wanted to take over the Dardanelles, the area where the Black Sea opened out into the Mediterranean Sea, for war ships and easy trade around Europe. Turkey owned the Dardanelles, but Russia and turkey were enemies. Since the Mediterranean was a very important trade route for England, England supported Turkey against Russia.
-Since Germany was becoming a threat to England, they joined the Triple Entente which supported Russia and France. But even since they were in the Triple Entente, they were not fully committed to war. (Why did)
