During the war
Life at war for a British soldier was mostly spent in the trenches, training establishments, stores, workshops, headquarters. The worst place that a British soldier could end up was in the trenches. Trenches were alleyways that were dug into the earth for protection against weapons. Many soldiers would get trench foot and other sicknesses due to standing in muddy water for days and days. These soldiers also had to go through the no mans land to the enemy's trench in order to gain more land but many were killed or taking as war prisoners. Disease was spread through vermin and flies were everywhere because of decomposing bodies. Lastly, gas attacks were expected throughout the time in the trench.(Baker)
