What was the significance of this event?

The gold rush played many significant roles including population and wealth. With the find of gold in the 1848, many people from every direction traveled to California in the search of gold including from countries like Mexico, China, Europe, and Australia. With this, the population increased greatly which why there is many diverse cultures and religion throughout all California today. Wealth was also significant role in the gold rush. Many people traveled to California to be wealthy, but many were unsuccessful. With the unsuccess of most people, a few were very striked it rich.Historians estimate that around 12 million ounces of gold was mined during the gold rush. Today that would be worth about 12 billion
