Where did it take place?
The California gold rush was started by James W. Marshall at Sutler's Mill in Coloma, California. James discovered gold, while he was building a sawmill and noticed several flakes in the tailrace water and recognized them as gold. Miners found areas for mining in Northern California and in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, which were filled with a lot of gold, that many wanted. The gold rush continued and by 1849 the treasure seeker were called 49r's.
