Huey Long

Senator of Louisiana - "Every Man a King"

At first, Long supported the New Deal, but soon turned against Roosevelt because of FDR's views on the economy.

Long was eager to win the presidency for himself, so he proposed a nationwide social program called "Share Our Wealth"

He stated, "Every child is born with the $2000 debt tied around his neck… We propose that children shall be born in a land of opportunity…" proving that he felt Roosevelt was to blame regarding the debt and felt like he himself could fix it.

This program was so popular that by 1935 he had 27,000 Share Our Wealth clubs and 7.5 million members.

He was unfortunately assassinated at the height of his popularity, but his plan was created to clean up the mess of US debt the FDR added onto.
