The Republican Party

TheRepublican Party strongly opposed deficit spending and felt the president was just causing debt.

Deficit spending is the act of spending money that the government does not have (which leads to being in the red, or having debt).

Because of this deficit spending, Republicans felt that FDR was not handling the government's money efficiently, and worsening the country's debt.

The Republican Party also felt that the government was getting too big, and as a result, having too much power.

Republicans argued that Roosevelt spent too much money on direct relief and used the New Deal policies to control businesses & socialize the economy.
