The Supreme Court
In 1935, the court struck down the NIRA as unconstitutional.
The Supreme Court declared that the NIRA gave legislative powers to the executive branch.
In 1936, the court struck down the AAA on the grounds that agriculture should be regulated by the states rather than the federal government.
Fearing the court's decisions might dismantle the New Deal, Roosevelt tried to pass a bill (court-packing bill) to allow him to appoint 6 new Supreme Court Justices.
Many people felt like Roosevelt was violating principles of judicial independence and the separation of powers.
