Comparing and contrasting

Both Truth and Twain have similar subjects. Some of both Twain's and Truth's work talks about slaves. But they differ in how they present the subject. Twain portrays slavery through the life experiences of Huck, while Truth wrote a book about first hand life experiences as a slave.

Tone-- Twain and Truth have very different tones. Twain uses a very lighthearted tone, but still shows deeper meaning in his novels. Contrastingly, Truth has a very direct tone and points out specifically what she means.

In his writing, it is a character like hughes that is the speaker. The occasion tends to be a groovy, yet largely outcasted environment that is targeted at people like him. The purpose is to have pride in African-American culture, but also to create change.
