In the cities of Sumer whether they were rich or poor everyone had a home. The poor people had narrow houses and the rich people had wide houses. All homes were three stories high. The first floor was an entryway and a courtyard sometimes kids played their or meals were cooked. The second floor was were the family lived. People used the roof like a floor because it was flat. Houses were built out of mud bricks and blocks.
