Early Life

Mother Teresa grew up in a poor household. The youngest of three children, Agnes, along with her older brother Lazar, and older sister Agatha, attended many Roman Catholic masses with their mother.

The family was especially impacted after their father's death, when Agnes was 8. Dranafile got a job at a textile mill, but money was scare at home. However, despite the little extra income, Drana extended an open invitation for the poor, and needy to dine at their table. When a young Mother Teresa asked her mother why they were dining with these people, many strangers to them, her mother would respond, "Some of them are our relation, but all of them are our people."
