Antoine Laurent Lavoisier
Antoine Laurent Lavoisier was the founder of the modern science of chemistry. He discovered that all acids have oxygen within them and that oxygen was the acidifying principle. He synthesized water by burning jets of hydrogen and oxygen in a bell jar over mercury. He concluded that water was not an element as it had been for 2,000 years. He then shared it is a compound of 2 gases which are hydrogen and oxygen.
All acids contained oxygen theory, he created.
Water experiment that was conducted to prove water wasn't an element.
