Fruit Basket by Derek Mcrea

DESCRIBE:
Obvious recognizable objects: grapes, bananas, apples
Line: The lines are thin and simple.
Color: the colors are bright and cheerful.
It looks like the paint is watercolor.
The texture makes the painting look 3-D. The table cloth looks like its billowing in the wind.
ANALYZE:
The brightness of the fruit basket and the table cloth underneath it are balanced out by the gloomy, sad color in the background.
The emphasis is supposed to be on the fruit basket but my eye immediately draws to the table cloth because of the texture, pattern and colors of the tablecloth. Also the contrast of the white and blue draw my eye in.
The fruits are repeated over and over again. Also, the squares qon the tablecloth are repeated many times
Symmetrical
INTERPRET:
This painting resembles happiness to me.
It looks like the fruit basket is about to be taken outside to a picnic.
It seems like the day that Derek McCrea painted this was a sunny day with blue skies.
