Wall painting from the house of
Julia Felix

DESCRIBE:
Shapes: circles, rectangles, triangles, squares
Texture: rough and shows the painting is old
Line: sharp and textured. The lines on the pitcher are curved.
Color: tans, browns, grays and whites
The darker colors balance out the white wall.
ANALYZE:
The bottom of the photo is dark, busy and full while the top of the photo is light, airy and clear.
The water pitcher brings my eye in immediately. This object dominates the photo because of the dark color against the white wall, the large shape and the curved lines.
The wall is a negative space in the art. It is very blank except for the texture which is rough and brings more interest to the wall.
This painting is static because it is still life and the horizontal shape of the table.
Asymmetrical
Nothing in the wall painting repeats except for the multiple rolls of bread.
The bread and the pitcher add visual interest. The bread is fun to look at because the little circle is being repeated. The pitcher has a interesting shape to look at.
INTERPRET:
This wall painting reflects the Roman Art period, which it was created in, because this is what a typical Roman meal would look like. Also, these are the objects that would be in the kitchen.
I think the art is just showing how the people of this time lived their life because it was a wall painting in the house of Julia Felix.
