Basic Perimeter Areas and Possible Shapes
Back perimeter: Found when all the hair in the nape
and crown area is combed down
Side perimeter: Found when all of the hair from the
side and top of the head is combed into gravity
Front perimeter: Found by combing down the hair in the front hairline. If the front perimeter is above the bridge of the nose, it is sometimes called “bangs” or “fringe.”
Concave: falls to an arc at the bottom
Convex: line forms an arc at the top and is open at the bottom
V: a strongly or slightly angled perimeter. Falls to a V point.
Horizontal: line is parallel to the floor
Asymmetrical: one side of the hair is longer than the other.
Forward diagonal: progressively getting longer toward the front
Backward diagonal: progressively getting longer toward the back
