Battle of Gettysburg
It was fought July 1- July 3 in Gettysburg Pennsylvania between the Union and Confederate armies during the Civil War. it was the turning point of the Civil War and the bloodiest battle in the whole war. The union army led by major General Meade's Army of the Potomac defeated the invading Confederate army- the Army of Northern Virginia led by General Robert E. Lee. the unions objective was to defend their territory and defeat the invading confederate forces. the obstacles for the union was that the confederate armies were in very high spirits led by a brilliant tactician. The battle resulted in a huge win for the Union because it effectively ended the civil war. Causalities were very high, about 23,00 on each side, but they represented a far greater proportion of the confederacy army. On the union side 3,155 soldiers were killed, 14,531 wounded and 5,369 captured or missing out of a total of 23,055 Union soldiers. On the confederate side, 4,708 soldiers were killed, 12,693 wounded and 5,830 capture or missing out of a total of 23, 231 Confederate soldiers.
