Clothing and Fashion

Hoop skirts, most famous clothing, ladies wore a very full floor length skirt with a tight bodice with full sleeves. Also wore gowns and wealthy women changed their clothes 5 times a day, and wore black for mourning. Men wore frock coats, dale coats over vests, waist coats, vests, high collars, and elaborate cravats. Girls wore dresses, bonnets, and shoes. Boys wore pants and shirts.
Northern Union Army wore navy blue, and the Southern Confederate armies wore grey. the union uniform was a dark blue wool coat with bright buttons and light blue trousers, a dark cap, known as a forage cap, and shoes called brogans that went up to their ankles. The confederate uniform was a waist length grey coat, and light blue trousers. Sometimes, they were their own clothes. This uniform did not include shoes sometimes due to financial problems.
