Major Leaders in Asylum/Prison reform/ their accomplishments

Dorothea Dix:
-Joined social reform because of personal experiences
-Dix was horrified by the Massachusetts House of Correction, or prison
-Realized mentally ill were also sent to prison
-1843, made MA improve conditions of prisons and treatment of inmates
-1845-1852, persuaded nine Southern states to set up public hospital for mentally ill
-Dix helped with the idea of rehabilitation
