Asylum/Prison Reforms
-1831: Alexis de Tocqueville wrote about how prisoners are physically abused and punished and isolated for extended periods of time.
-Prisoners were torturing people who were not mentally sane
-Dorothea Dix visited prisons and observed the things that occur within its walls and wrote about it and made a difference in reforms
-Dix made these reforms in 1845 and 1852
