Death and Destruction Ch 15

People died from accidents, starvation, disease and combat. Tuberculosis, Pneumonia, and typhoid were 3 major diseases. Raising money helped families deal with their losses and the money provided for other soldiers and their family. Also it paid for hospitals. Bandages, medication, and food were sent by thousands of people working for the Union, Women dealt with the losses by working in farms and/or factories. Children also helped on the farms and did daily chores to make up for the men they lost. Some Southern woman also worked on farms and managed plantations.
