It was a larger battle than The First Battle of Bull Run. They captured the Union supply depot at Manassas Junction that would threaten and stop the Popes line of Communications with Washington D.C. The outcome was a Confederate Victory. For the Union approximately 10,000 were killed and wounded and for the Confederates approximately 1,300 were killed and 7,000 wounded.

The Battle of Antietam was fought on September 17, 1862, in Washington County near Sharpsburg, Maryland. It was a Strategic Union Victory. This was also between the Confederacy and United States but instead of Pope and Lee it was George B. McClellan against Robert E. Lee.
