Dred Scott vs. Sanford

fought for his freedom
told him he was property and had no rights
Abolistist helped him
restricts more rights on blacks

Dred Scott, a black slave who sued for his freedom on the basis of his long residence on free soil. It was ruled that Scott was a black slave and not a citizen so he couldn't sue in federal courts. Also it was decreed because a slave was private property, he or she could be taken into any territory and legally held there in slavery.
