Harriet Beecher Stowe decided to write this novel known well as "Uncle Tom's Cabin" which tells about a slave in the South. This was quite a scandal everywhere because it talked about the issue of slavery. It was very controversial to write a book about slavery and it be written by a woman. She made readers feel compassion for someone who isn't real and a slave. Everyone was buying and reading this book. As Lincoln once said "This is the lady who started the Civil War."
