When we came to this page, Eleanor began to lose track of the story. There were a cluster of unknown words- 'spool', 'crochet' (she pronounced it "croquet") and 'deftly' and they all seemed unfamiliar. I did not want to interrupt her reading, but I made note of it.

Evidence that strategies were missing

This paragraph threw her off with the word "say," being used as a greeting. The dashes after "Mr. Capper-", and "here-", also confused her. She reread this passage a few times and eventually turned to me for guidance.
