Reading process

When I first interviewed Eleanor she explained that she preferred reading in her head and responding to her reading afterwards. I knew I wanted her to read aloud for the conference so that I could listen for her understanding. As she read it became clear that there were parts where meaning had broken down and confusion had set in. This style of reading would place her in the Aware Learners/Readers category. She realizes when meaning breaks down, but doesn't always have sufficient strategies for fixing the problem (Harvey & Goudvis, pg.26). She needed more strategies to enhance her understanding.
