In December of 2012, one of Penn State's many sororities (Chi Omego) threw a Mexican-themed party with sombreros, ponchos, and fake mustaches. They, later, took pictures of their party and posted them online. These photos sparked an outrage amongst the Latino students at Penn State.
If wearing these kinds of things to a Mexican party is offensive, then maybe we should stop with them. We could, also, stop hanging up pinatas for us to whack. We could stop draping paper decorations onto the walls. We could stop bringing chips and salsa for us to eat. The problem with that is that once we got rid of all of that, it wouldn't be a Mexican party! It wouldn't be a party at all!
