Martin Van Buren 1836-1840

Panic of 1837- Demands increased on private banks for loans- no regulation of loans because Jackson closed national bank. The value of money decreased. The cotton industry was failing and the economic depression lasted for 3 years.

Optimistic- Buren's cheerful attitude made him a well like man. He was always positive and confident in our country which is a great characteristic for our president to have. We don't want a negative president!
