12th Amendment- When the electors voted in 1800, there was a tie. After 35 ties, in 1803, they eventually changed the Constitution. (Pic 2)
Louisiana Purchase- American bought all land west of the Mississippi River for $15 million and this doubled the size of America. Jefferson structured the purchase as a treaty. (Pic 1)
Lewis & Clark Expedition- They went to explore and document new territory. Lewis kept a detailed journal and samples of dead and alive plants and animals. They also wanted to find a water way to the Pacific. This expedition was significant because it paved way for westward expansion.
Embargo act- This act banded trade with foreign countries. Jefferson hoped this would hurt British and French so they would stop attacking our ships. This instead hurt American merchants.
Peaceful- Jefferson was a cam and peaceful president. His process of coming into office was peaceful and he wasn't the type of man to want to fight.
